Loom Gallery is delighted to announce Entanglement, a solo exhibition of brand new works by Switzerland based artist Valentina De’ Mathà. The opening reception will take place
Thursday, 26 November, from 7 to 9pm, and the artist will be present. The status of entanglement reflects an actual and impossible separation, an intertwinement.
It’s a physical phenomenon, discovered by quantum physics, where two or more subatomic particles, also known as “entities”, mutually condition themselves, but at the same time communicate among themselves.Consequently, physical systems are strongly connected, they actually resonate with each other. Subatomic particles are mutually correlated, so reflecting the Big Bang theory, according to which everything was connected at the beginning, but everything is still connected and inseparable now. Humanity consists of subatomic particles, hence the “human” entanglement is a state of nature, our day-to-day behaviour and human relationships actually originate from that connection. The artist created a structured set of “umbilical cords”, an intertwinement of emulsified papers: these same papers were then chemically “painted” by means of chemical procedures in the darkroom. Finally “painted” cords have been precisely embedded and sewn into each other, leading to tapestry works where painting, photography, sculpture and weaving are contained altogether.

Valentina De’ Mathà is born 1981 in Avezzano, Italy, she lives in Switzerland. Her research is based on the interaction among man, nature and mutation, as well as on
the causality principle and on the dialectic between her action on matter and its reaction to it. Her peculiar technique also gives vent to a high percentage of non-deterministic mechanisms and to the typical uncertainty of quantum mechanics. She examines human behaviour when people are facing the unpredictability of inescapable circumstances or events caused by themselves; consequently, she explores the human emotional instabilities and reactions of people facing the unexpected, inevitable or sudden life-changing experiences.

Loom Gallery è lieta di presentare la prima mostra personale in galleria di Valentina De’ Mathà, artista di origine italiana che vive in Svizzera; il titolo della mostra Entanglement richiama l’attenzione dell’artista sull’esistenza umana, fila di anime viventi che attraversano i cammini della terra e si intrecciano tra di loro, in un turbinio di esperienze, emozioni e sensazioni.
Entanglement identifica la non-separabilità, l’intreccio: un fenomeno scoperto dalla fisica quantistica che coinvolge due o più particelle subatomiche o “entità”, che si condizionano e comunicano a distanza. Ciò significa che non esistono sistemi isolati, ogni cosa risuona con il tutto.
Le particelle sono correlate, così com’era tutto collegato al momento del Big Bang: ciò significa che tutto si sta ancora toccando, tutto è connesso e inseparabile. L’umanità è composta da particelle subatomiche, quindi l’entanglement umano è naturale, un legame con il tutto da cui scaturisce la nostra quotidianità e le nostre relazioni interpersonali. Partendo da tali assunti l’artista ha dato forma a una struttura che definisce “cordoni ombelicali”, derivante dall’intreccio di carte emulsionate poi “dipinte” in camera oscura attraverso procedimenti chimici. Successivamente le carte emulsionate sono state assemblate come tasselli perfettamente combacianti e cuciti tra di loro realizzando degli arazzi; dando così vita ad opere che racchiudono la pittura, la fotografia, la scultura e la tessitura.

Valentina De’ Mathà nasce nel 1981 ad Avezzano, Italia. Vive e lavora in Svizzera. La sua ricerca è basata sull’interazione tra uomo, natura e mutamento, nonché sul principio di causa – effetto degli eventi, e sulla visione dialettica tra l’ azione dell’artista sullamateria e la reazione della materia ad essa. Le sue opere hanno fatto parte di numerose esposizioni, tra cui la 54a Mostra Internazionale d’Arte La Biennale di Venezia Padiglione Italia nel 2011; recentemente ha partecipato al progetto globale non profit di arte contemporanea “Imago Mundi – Luciano Benetton Collection” presso la Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Torino) e la Fondazione Giorgio Cini (Venezia).
