Planar ha il piacere di ospitare Giovanna Silva, membro del nostro comitato scientifico: un interessante excursus dalla produzione fotografica dell’autrice fino alla fondazione della casa editrice Humboldt Books.
Un importante appuntamento con una autrice tra le più interessanti del panorama europeo contemporaneo. Giovanna Silva fonda la sua attività di ricerca sullla volontà di provare i limiti della libertà di movimento. I suoi numerosi viaggi, sono uno strumento per ridisegnare ogni volta i confini fisici e culturali della conoscenza del mondo. Attraverso le sue immagini, ci porterà in viaggio con lei ripercorendo tutto il suo percorso di ricerca fino ai progetti più recenti e futuri. Parleremo di libri; della casa editrice che ha fondato Humboldt Books e che da tre anni conduce un progetto affascinante fra fotografia, arti visive e narrativa. Humboldt Books ripropone, in chiave contemporanea, il libro di viaggio nato dalle grandi esplorazioni scientifiche del XVII e XIX secolo; con un approccio interdisciplinare, attento alla ricerca visiva contemporanea, Humboldt propone uno sguardo non convenzionale sui territori esplorati.
Giovanna Silva vive e lavora a Milano. Dal 2005 al 2007 ha collaborato con la rivista Domus mentre dal settembre 2007 al settembre 2011 è stata Photoeditor della rivista Abitare. Per Abitare ha fotografato Renzo Piano e Zaha Hadid per i numeri speciali Being. Ha pubblicato Desertions, A+M Bookstore; Orantes, Quodlibet; Baghdad, Green Zone, Red Zone, Babylon, Mousse Publishing; Narratives/Relazioni: Libya: Inch by Inch, House by House, Alley by Alley, Mousse Publishing; Fox-Trot Gate, Cyprus, Mousse Publishing.
Ha partecipato alla 14.Mostra Internazionale di Architettura di Venezia con il progetto Nightswimming, Discotheques in Italy from the 1960s until now.
Fa parte della redazione della rivista San Rocco ed è direttrice editoriale e fondatrice di Humboldt Books.

Planar is pleased to host a public talk with Giovanna Silva, member of our Scientific Committee.
One of the most interesting figure in the field of contemporary European photography and art. Giovanna Silva’s research activity aim to test the limits of freedom of movement. Her travels are a path to re-design the physical and cultural boundaries of the knowledge of the world. Through her images, Giovanna will take us on the road going over all her past photographic researches to the latest and ongoing projects. Giovanna will also talk about Humboldt Books, the publishing house she founded in 2012. Through Humboldt Giovanna is leading a fascinating project between photography, visual arts and narrative. With a contemporary approach Humboldt Books propose a travel literature drawing inspiration from the great scientific explorations from the XVII and XIX century. With an interdisciplinary approach, attentive to contemporary visual research, Humboldt offers an unconventional look on explored territories.
Giovanna Silva lives and works in Milan. As a photographer, she exposed at the Venice Biennale 2006 her work about the city of Bogotà, Colombia. Her most recent publication is Desertions, a chronicle of an american trip with designer Enzo Mari. From 2005-2007 she contributed to Domus and since september 2007 until september 2011 she was the Photo Editor of Abitare. She photographed Renzo Piano and Zaha Hadid for the Abitare’s special issues Being Renzo Piano and Being Zaha Hadid, 6 month experience of architecture in the making. In october 2011 she published a new book, Orantes, ed.Quodlibet. In july 2012 she published Narratives/Relazioni: Baghdad, Green Zone, Red Zone, Babylon, Mousse Publishing. She is in the editorial board of San Rocco Magazine. She is the editor of Humboldt Books. She has a column on Doppiozero.
