Riccardo Crespi ripropone Wunderkammer che nel suo secondo anno si trasforma in un progetto di cultura partecipativa, offrendo, all’interno della galleria, uno spazio aperto a nuovi mecenati che desiderino presentare e promuovere l’opera di giovani artisti italiani.
I collezionisti selezionano di volta in volta un artista e si impegnano a sostenere il progetto, anche attraverso il coinvolgimento di un curatore, scelto dal medesimo “mecenate”, che diviene garante della credibilità dell’intero processo attraverso l’attivazione di relazioni tra collezionisti e curatori, nella cornice della galleria.

L’intento del progetto è offrire uno spazio ai giovani artisti italiani, producendone un’opera e favorendo la divulgazione e lo scambio tra i collezionisti più conosciuti per la loro cultura artistica e la loro attenzione in ambito contemporaneo.

I collezionisti coinvolti – in questa stagione Giorgio Fasol, Paolo Gori, Jean Claude Mosconi e Alberto Toffoletto – finanziano direttamente la produzione dell’opera o delle opere destinate alla Wunderkammer, che successivamente saranno messe in vendita attraverso un’asta silenziosa.

Il primo appuntamento ha come protagonista l’artista Luigi Ballario (1988), scelto da Paolo Gori e con la curatela di Federica Boràgina. Impressioni mostra l’originale e poetica ricerca di Ballario, condotta attraverso la sperimentazione del mezzo fotografico, rivelando il valore e le potenzialità dell’indagine tecnica e di una strumentazione non professionale. L’artista, infatti, opera con un banco ottico costruito in maniera artigianale che diviene una scatola magica in grado di regalare immagini del mondo inconsuete e sorprendenti, da lui stesso sviluppate in camera oscura. L’affascinante dialogo tecnico fra positivi e negativi è restituito con un’estetica sapientemente calibrata e al contempo estremamente suggestiva. Le opere in mostra raccontano come l’espediente tecnico possa essere matrice semantica: il banco ottico richiede tempi di esposizione lunghi che costringono l’artista, soggetto di molte delle proprie fotografie, a compiere un vero e proprio sforzo fisico, quasi in una dimensione performativa. Le presenze che abitano le opere di Ballario sono il risultato dell’eroico esercizio di guardare il mondo con tutto il corpo e non solo con gli occhi.
Il progetto verrà documentato con un volume edito da Gli Ori, a cura di Federica Boràgina.
Luigi Ballario (Prato 1988), autodidatta, ha iniziato le sue sperimentazioni sul suolo pratese per poi confrontarsi con altri luoghi in Italia, Europa fino a zone estreme come quartiere 798 di Beijing. Ha esposto presso il MUSAE Museo Urbano Sperimentale d’ arte emergente nel 2012 e, l’anno seguente, presso La Corte Arte Contemporanea, Firenze, in occasione della mostra personale Intimacy, a cura di Rosanna Tempestini Frizzi e Carolina Orlandini.

In galleria sarà possibile visitare anche la mostra Painting now, una mostra collettiva che vuole individuare un breve percorso all’interno della pittura contemporanea attraverso le opere di Giulia Andreani, Romain Bernini, Eun Mo Chung, Nathalie du Pasquier, Cristiano Menchini, Roee Rosen, Marta Sforni, Caterina Silva, Veronica Smirnoff, Sinta Tantra e Gal Weinstein.

Riccardo Crespi gallery is proposing Wunderkammer again, transformed in its second year into a project of participatory culture: a space in the gallery is being offered to new patrons who desire to present and promote the work of young Italian artists.
Each collector selects an artist and undertakes to support the project, perhaps through the involvement of a curator, chosen by the ‘patron’ himself. This provides a guarantee of the credibility of the entire process through the establishment of relations between collectors and curators in the setting of the gallery.

The intention of the project is to offer a space to young Italian artists, producing one of their works and presenting it to the public, as well as favouring an exchange between collectors with a reputation for their knowledge of art and their attention to contemporary developments.

The collectors involved – in this season they will be Giorgio Fasol, Paolo Gori, Jean Claude Mosconi and Alberto Toffoletto – directly fund the production of the work or works for the Wunderkammer, which will subsequently be put up for sale through a silent auction.

The protagonist of the first show is the artist Luigi Ballario (1988), chosen by Paolo Gori, and the curator will be Federica Boràgina. Impressioni presents Ballario’s original and poetic research, which is carried out through experimentation with the medium of photography and reveals the value and potential of an investigation of technique and the use of non-professional equipment. In fact the artist works with a hand-built view camera that becomes a magic box able to produce unusual and surprising images of the world, which he develops himself in the dark room. The fascinating technical rapport between positives and negatives is conveyed through a carefully measured and at the same time highly evocative aesthetic. The works on display show how the technical device can be a source of semantics: the view camera requires long exposure times that oblige the artist, who is the subject of many of his own pictures, to make a genuine physical effort, almost in a dimension of performance. The presences that inhabit Ballario’s works are the result of the heroic exercise of looking at the world with the whole of the body and not just with the eyes.
The project will be documented with a book published by Gli Ori and edited by Federica Boràgina.
Luigi Ballario (Prato 1988) is self-taught and began his experimentation in the Prato area of Tuscany before taking it to other places in Italy and Europe and even such distant locations as the 798 Art District of Beijing. He showed at the MUSAE (Museo Urbano Sperimentale d’Arte Emergente) in 2012 and, the following year, at La Corte Arte Contemporanea, Florence, in a solo exhibition entitled Intimacy and curated by Rosanna Tempestini Frizzi and Carolina Orlandini.

In the gallery it will also be possible to visit Painting Now, a joint exhibition that presents a brief exploration of contemporary painting with works by Giulia Andreani, Romain Bernini, Eun Mo Chung, Nathalie du Pasquier, Cristiano Menchini, Roee Rosen, Marta Sforni, Caterina Silva, Veronica Smirnoff, Sinta Tantra and Gal Weinstein.
